The CEN / CENELEC General Assembly, which was held recently in Skopje, Republic of Macedonia, brought together the national standardisation bodies of 33 European countries together with their counterparts from neighbouring countries with which there are technical harmonisation agreements. The General Assembly constitutes an opportunity to continue developing standards that provide access to the single market and the neighbouring countries of the European Union.The Spanish delegation was led by the Managing Director of AENOR, Avelino Brito.Similarly, the General Assembly celebrated the agreement reached with European industry, the European Commission and other interest groups, which under the name “Joint Initiative for Standardisation” will be implemented on Monday 13 June in Amsterdam with the presence of the Commissioner Bienkowska and the Dutch Prime Minister on behalf of the European Council. This initiative for standardisation represents a fundamental support for the role played by standardisation to open up markets for European industry and give confidence to the public authorities and consumers in general.AENOR, which is a member of the Board of Directors of CENELEC, has been re-elected as a member of the same Board of CEN, in order to defend the interests of Spanish industry in the European sphere. The Spanish representative is AENOR's Director of Standardisation, Javier García.
