World Smart City Forum

2016-07-20

Between 13 and 15 July, the Wold Smart City Forum took place in Singapore, organised by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), in collaboration with the International Standards Organisation (ISO) and the International Telecommunications Union (ITU); the Spanish Government were invited to the Forum to present their model on Smart Cities, thus recognising that Spain is at the global forefront in this field.

AENOR, the company that is legally responsible for developing standards in Spain and the national representative before international Standards bodies, participated fully in the event, introducing the commitment of the Spanish government and the SETSI (Secretariat of State for Telecommunications and the Information Society of the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism) regarding Smart Cities, explaining the innovative governance model of Spain, the standardisation strategy through the Standardisation Technical Committee 178 (CTN 178) regarding Smart Cities and the capacity of Spanish industry to take action.

Spanish efforts regarding Smart Cities are channeled through CTN 178, promoted by the SETSI, in which 700 experts from a large variety of fields work on the elaboration of fifty technical standards that will impulse the development of smart cities in Spain. The first 20 standards have already been published.
