UNE at COPANT's 2017 General Meeting

The General Meeting of the Pan-American Standards Commission (COPANT) took place in the first few days of May. The meeting was held jointly with the Asia-Pacific Standards Conference, with the title "Regional collaboration in a global environment".

One of the key themes at the meeting was the development of standardisation to support international trade in services. Drawing from this theme, ISO organised an event on international standards and conformity assessment in the service sector.

The Spanish Standardisation Association UNE took part in the workshop, introducing Spain's experience as a worldwide leader in standards on tourist quality (developed along with the national sector through the ICTE at the ISO/TC 228 committee) as well as the certification of services.

There was also a meeting of the group of national standardisation bodies - all Spanish speaking members of ISO. At this meeting the joint translation into Spanish of various ISO standards was approved, including ISO 37001 Anti-bribery management systems. Requirements and guidelines for use; ISO 20400 Sustainable procurement. Guidelines; and ISO 17025 Conformity assessment. General requirements regarding responsibilities in testing and calibration laboratories, forthcoming.

The Pan-American Standards Commission is a non-profit civil association, grouping together National Standardisation Bodies (ONN) in the Americas. It currently has 34 active members and 9 adherent members - the UNE is an adherent member.
