A Spanish technician receives the ISO Excellence Award

2017-11-07

The ISO 16128 standard aims to align definitions and criteria to provide clarity to the market in all aspects related to natural and organic cosmetics. Its scope of action covers technical aspects related to the definition of natural and organic ingredients, and their manufacturing processes, in order to be able to calculate the percentage of natural or organic content of cosmetic products.

The Standard consists of two parts:
• ISO 16128-1:2016 Guidelines on technical definitions and criteria for natural and organic cosmetic ingredients and products - Part 1: Definitions for ingredients
• ISO 16128-2:2017 Guidelines on technical definitions and criteria for natural and organic cosmetic ingredients - Part 2: Criteria for ingredients and products

Part 1 provides definitions for different categories of natural and organic ingredients, and their derivatives, that are used to manufacture cosmetics. Part 2 describes approaches to calculate indexes corresponding to these different categories, offering a framework to determine the natural or organic content of the product.

For her work in developing this Standard, Carmen Esteban has received the "ISO Excellence Award", an accolade created in 2003 to recognise excellence in achievements by ISO technical experts. The prize is open to any person nominated as an expert, project leaders and coordinators of committee work groups.

Stanpa is the Spanish Cosmetic, Toiletry and Perfumery Association. Founded in 1952, it works with over 400 manufacturer of perfumes, cosmetics and personal care products in Spain.
