AENOR 25 Years

In 2011 the Spanish Association for Standardisation and Certification is celebrating its twenty-fifth anniversary. AENOR has a proven track record as an agent for progress, spreading the culture of quality amongst the Spanish business and institutional world through its standardisation and certification activities.

Since AENOR was founded in 1986, we have gone from a limited catalogue of technical standards restricted to certain sectors, to more than 29,000 standard-related documents, one of the most comprehensive collections in the world. This catalogue contains widely accepted best practices catering for practically all of the sectors of the economy, enabling them to effectively address key factors for their competitiveness.

A market for certification has been created in Spain, from which all organisations can draw support. AENOR is one of the 10 leading certification organisations in the world and has issued 62,000 certificates in areas such as quality, the environment, occupatonal safety, R&D, energy efficiency, food, and more.

These results and new achievements that are still to come have been accomplished thanks to the support of thousands of organisations that believe in the power of standardisation and certification as tools to improve the competitiveness of the economic fabric. These include companies, administrations, research centres and other organisations, with members of AENOR playing a key role.

AENOR has published two books to mark its 25th anniversary. Tecnología para competir (Technology to compete) brings together ten success stories of technology development in Spanish organisations. With this work AENOR aims to draw attention to the importance of technology for companies' competitiveness and the role of standardisation as a primary means of fostering and disseminating technology. Meanwhile, AENOR 25 Años (25 years of AENOR), offers an overview of how AENOR's standardisation and certification work in many fields has contributed to the well-being of society as a whole.
